MELAKA: Have you ever seen pitchers being used as decorations for Chinese New Year hampers?

Pitchers are normally hanging downward, but this new type of pitcher is growing up straight from the ground!

According to the owner of a florist at Jalan Ong Kim Wee, Melaka, the pitcher has been brought in from Texas, USA, but has since been grown in Cameron Highlands as well.

"We are the first in Melaka to use this kind of pitcher."

This kind of pitcher is more attractive than the ordinary pitchers we see, with a red or green flower-like leaf growing from the opening of the pitcher trap.

"This pitcher can catch its own insects, and we sometimes see insects trapped inside.

"However, unlike ordinary pitchers which prefer dark and humid places, this new type of pitcher needs a lot of sunlight.

"It is advisable to bring it out to for some sun every morning, and then pour some water on the pitcher trap for it to drink.

"If you can feed it with some insects, I believe it would grow even bigger and more beautiful."
